Matters of inquiry.

A directory of the most asked, the most answered, and the most worth settling before your first cup arrives. Filed by subject, in roman numerals.

  • Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee. Our beans grow at 1,500–2,200m in volcanic soil, which produces layered, high-acid profiles — Yirgacheffe leans bright and floral, Sidamo wine-deep and balanced, Harrar blueberry-fruity and wild. The elevation, the shade canopy, and the hand-picking at peak ripeness are what you taste in the cup.

  • We roast in small batches and ship within 2–5 days of roast. Every bag is stamped with its roast date. For best flavour we recommend consuming within 2–4 weeks of that date; beans rest best in their original one-way-valve bag, cool and dry, out of light.

  • We currently ship whole bean so you can grind for your brew method at home. Coarse for French press and cold brew. Medium-coarse for Chemex. Medium for drip and pour-over. Medium-fine for AeroPress. Fine for espresso. A burr grinder delivers noticeably better flavour than anything ground days earlier.

  • Not in the current catalog. When we add decaf, it will be Swiss Water Process only — no chemical solvents. Join the waitlist or write us if you want to be first to know.

  • Standard (USPS Ground Advantage) is typically 3–7 business days within the continental US. Expedited runs 2–3 days. Orders placed before 2 PM EST Monday–Friday usually ship the same day once roasted stock is available. Tracking is emailed when a label is created.

  • We ship throughout the United States and Canada. Canadian orders take 5–7 business days and may be subject to customs duties. Broader international shipping will come only when we can still deliver freshly roasted coffee.

  • Live carrier rates are calculated at checkout from Mount Joy, PA (usually USPS Ground Advantage for one or two bags). Free standard shipping on orders of $75 or more. Subscription deliveries always ship free. Expedited options are available at cost.

  • Within two hours of placing an order, yes — contact customer service and we will intercept it. After that window, the order enters fulfillment and can no longer be altered. Our 30-day return policy covers anything that does not work out.

  • All major cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover), plus Apple Pay and Google Pay via Stripe Checkout. Every transaction is secured with TLS encryption — we never see or store your full card number.

  • Yes. Choose Daily (one 12oz bag / month), Ritual (two bags), or Reserve (three bags including a reserve lot). Subscribers get free shipping and can pause or cancel anytime from their account. See /plans for current pricing.

  • Cool, dry, out of sunlight. The bag’s one-way valve lets CO₂ escape while keeping oxygen out — keep beans sealed in it. An airtight ceramic or opaque container works too. Avoid the fridge or freezer: both introduce moisture and dull the aromatics.

  • Begin at 1:16 — roughly 30g of coffee per 480g of water. Adjust to taste: 1:15 for a denser cup, 1:17 for a brighter, lighter one. Weigh your coffee; volume scoops are imprecise. Small adjustments make a surprising difference.

  • Unopened bags: return within 30 days for a full refund. Opened bags that do not suit your palate: we will issue an exchange or store credit and send a prepaid return label when appropriate. If a cup fails you, we make it right.

  • Write to admin@liyyucoffee.com — we answer within one working day. Phone support: (717) 928-3545 Monday–Friday, 9 AM – 6 PM EST. Live chat runs during those same hours when available.
